What Precisely Is Non – Point Source Pollutant?
Non – point sources (NPS), also known simply polluted runoff, is a type of pollution that comes from a wide range of scattered sources.
Non – point sources (NPS) differs from point source pollution in that it originates form specific sources including such sewage treatment plants & industrial facilities, whereas point source pollution (PS) is transported by water flowing over land, such as rainfall runoff. As water moves from across land, it picks up and transports contaminants that pollute the water it passes through.
Oil and sediment from roads, agricultural chemicals from fields, fertiliser, pesticides, with pet waste in urban and suburban regions, and fertiliser, pesticides, & pet waste from industrial & suburban areas are examples of pollutants. Either directly or indirectly, the polluted water eventually makes its way into a local waterbody.
